About 2count

What Is 2count?

2count is a free, privacy-first text analysis tool that gives writers, marketers, and content creators real-time character, word, sentence, and paragraph counts with platform-specific limit tracking. Every metric updates as you type, all processing happens 100% in your browser, and your text is never sent to a server. It is designed as a single-page workspace that replaces a dozen scattered counter websites with one fast, focused tool.

How Does 2count Work?

2count runs entirely in your browser. When you type or paste text into the editor, a single JavaScript module recalculates every metric on each keystroke — there is no backend, no API call, and no debounced round-trip. Here is the full pipeline:

  1. Type or paste your text into the main editor. Drag-and-drop of .txt and .md files is supported.
  2. Pick a platform from the header dropdown (Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google Ads, or Default). The character limit indicator updates instantly.
  3. Review live metrics — characters with and without spaces, words, sentences, paragraphs, estimated reading time, Flesch-Kincaid grade level, and top keywords.
  4. Use the side tools when you need them: Find & Replace, PII scanner, Twitter thread splitter, history snapshots, and the 10-minute auto-wipe countdown.
  5. Copy the result or let the auto-wipe clear everything after 10 minutes of inactivity.

What Are the Character Limits for Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google Ads?

2count tracks the official character limits for the platforms you most often write for. The built-in presets cover:

When you exceed a platform limit, the indicator turns red and the over-count is shown in real time.

What Is a Readability Score?

A readability score is a numeric grade that estimates how difficult a piece of text is to read. 2count uses the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level formula, which maps text complexity to a US school grade. A score of 8.0 means the text is readable by an average eighth grader. Most web content should target a grade level between 6 and 8 for general audiences, while technical documentation typically lands between 10 and 14. The score updates live as you type, so you can see the effect of every edit.

What Is PII Detection and Why Does It Matter?

PII detection scans your text for patterns that match Personally Identifiable Information — email addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, IPv4 addresses, and credit card numbers. The scan runs entirely in your browser, so no sensitive data ever leaves your device. PII detection matters because content teams, support agents, and developers frequently paste user-provided text into drafts, tickets, or documentation without realizing it contains private data. 2count catches those leaks before they ship.

Who Is 2count For?

Why Use 2count Instead of Another Character Counter?

Most free character counter sites wrap a tiny JavaScript function in a heavy page of ads, trackers, and upsells. 2count takes the opposite approach: no ads, no accounts, no data collection, and a focused feature set that includes platform limits, readability, keyword extraction, PII scanning, thread splitting, Find & Replace, and snapshot history — all in a single free tool. Everything runs client-side, so your drafts stay on your device, and a 10-minute auto-wipe clears the editor automatically if you step away.
